- Description:
- The Cherokee Nation filed an application for attorneys' fees, seeking an award of $1,436,447.61, based on 10% of the final judgment amount. The attorneys had two contracts with the Cherokee Nation, one from 1948 and another from 1958, both approved by the Commissioner of Indian Affairs. The contracts stipulated that the attorneys' compensation would be contingent on a recovery for the Cherokee Nation and not to exceed 10% of the amount recovered. The Commission allowed a partial fee of $200,000 in a previous order.
