- Description:
- Mrs. Phoebe Sewell wrote to Congressman Carl Albert inquiring about payments to the Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians for coal and asphalt lands sold to the government. Congressman Albert responded that payments are anticipated to be made that year, with enrolled members receiving around $300 or more. He advised enrolled members to update their mailing address with the Five Civilized Tribes Agency in Muskogee, Oklahoma to avoid delays in receiving their checks. He also mentioned that heirs of deceased members will receive their share based on proof of heirship notices. Mrs. Sewell expressed gratitude for the information and mentioned using the money to buy a little home.
