- Description:
- Duke City Lumber Co., Inc. is against legislation to grant 48,000 acres of land in the Carson National Forest to the Pueblo del Taos Indians. They believe that withdrawing such a large amount of public land would be excessive and detrimental to New Mexicans. They suggest a compromise similar to S. 750, which would grant the tribe exclusive use of 1,640 acres while allowing the Forest Service to administer the remaining area for the benefit of all citizens. They urge the introduction of a bill similar to S. 750 in the House Interior and Insular Affairs Committee.
