Helen Gahagan Douglas forwarded the letter to the War Department for investigation and assured Mr. Eichmann of her concern and assistance. The War Department liaison officer, Col. Wm. F. Pearson, responded to Mrs. Douglas, stating that the soldier was receiving mail regularly and that delays were due to transportation problems. He also provided information on the War Department's policy regarding the discharge of enlisted men. Mrs. Douglas promised to follow up on the matter and provide Mr. Eichmann with any updates.";
