- Description:
- Oklahoma Congressman Mickey Edwards will participate in a Presidential mission to South America during the Easter Congressional recess to discuss the international financial situation. Edwards, who is critical of the Administration's proposal to increase the U.S. financial contribution to the International Monetary Fund, is concerned about the potential financial disaster if Latin American countries fail to meet their debt obligations. He is also worried about the impact on U.S. farmers who rely on overseas grain sales. Edwards has not yet decided how he will vote on the IMF increase but wants to ensure that any contributions benefit the U.S. and that austerity measures are taken in borrowing nations.
