- Description:
- Mrs. M. D. Myrick sent a letter to Congressman W. G. Stigler regarding proposed bills concerning the Ohio Royal Shawnee Indians and the Black Bob Band. The document was then referred to Congressman George B. Schwabe, who is a member of the House Committee on Indian Affairs. Schwabe informed Mrs. Myrick that the committee is currently conducting hearings on proposed measures relating to Indian claims and suggested that it would be more appropriate to establish an Indian Claims Commission rather than giving jurisdiction to the U. S. Court of Claims. Schwabe stated that he is unable to pass an act authorizing the Court of Claims to assume jurisdiction of the claims at this time, especially since a bill seeking to establish an Indian Claims Commission is pending. He offered to keep Mrs. Myrick's papers unless she wanted them returned.
