<dcterms:description>The Cherokee Nation successfully petitioned the Indian Claims Commission for a settlement of $14,364,476.15 for land ceded in 1893. The attorneys representing the Cherokee tribe requested a fee of ten percent of the award, but the Commission determined that a fee of $1,000,000 or seven percent of the recovery was fair and adequate. The case involved determining the fair market value of the ceded land and the attorneys provided detailed information on the services they rendered in prosecuting the claim. One attorney, Earl Boyd Pierce, was primarily responsible for keeping the tribe informed and involved in the litigation process. Pierce spent a significant amount of time corresponding with and meeting with tribal members to update them on the progress of the claim.</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>State Senator Jimmy Belvin received a call regarding grievances from matrons at Riverside school in Anadarko. The issue had been ongoing since August and despite attempts to resolve it, the matrons felt they were not being heard. Senator Belvin contacted Mr. Pyle, the school superintendent, but the matrons still felt they were being silenced. They requested a hearing with Mr. D. Otis Beasley from Secretary Udall's office. After contacting Mr. Beasley, it was arranged for him to be represented at the hearing. The matrons expressed concerns about retaliation if they spoke out. The hearing was scheduled for June 30th.</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>Tribal issues were discussed at a recent Cheyenne-Arapaho Business Committee meeting, which ended in a close vote. There were concerns raised about the dismissal of three tribal employees and the allocation of revenues from an oil drilling agreement. A petition calling for a general tribal meeting was submitted, but some names were disputed. The Chairman expressed frustration with the lack of quorum at meetings and planned to schedule another meeting to address grievances.</dcterms:description>
